Is this really a YNAB alternative?

For the budgeting method, yes — Actual does envelope/zero-based budgeting with rollover, and imports YNAB data. Be aware of the honest difference: Actual is manual-first. There is no built-in US bank syncing; you enter or import transactions yourself. Many people consider that a feature.

Who can see my budget?

Your instance is isolated and access-controlled, and traffic is encrypted in transit. We don’t look at your content except as needed to run the service. Like most server apps it is not end-to-end encrypted; optional E2EE is on our roadmap.

How do I move my YNAB data?

Export from YNAB, import in Actual — the importer handles budgets, categories, and history. Our guide walks through it.
