Gateholm Budget

Set up Budget

Actual runs as your own private server — open it, set your password, and budget from any browser or the desktop app.

You'll need (about 2 minutes)

  • Your Budget server address — on your dashboard card (it looks like https://…budget.gateholm.com)
  • Your server password — "Reveal password" on the dashboard card

Everything on "your dashboard card" is at gateholm.com/account.

  1. Open your server

    Visit your Budget address from the dashboard card and enter the password. Nobody else has an account here — the whole server is yours.

  2. Create your budget

    Follow Actual's first-run flow: add your accounts, set your categories, and give every dollar a job. The in-app help is genuinely good.

  3. Use it anywhere

    The web app works on any device and installs to your phone's home screen. Prefer a desktop app? Install Actual from actualbudget.org and point it at your server address on first launch.

  4. Import your history

    Whole YNAB budgets come over via Import file on the budget file screen — the YNAB switching guide at gateholm.com/guides/import-ynab walks through it. Inside any account, Import pulls in CSV/QIF/OFX files from your bank.
